Wait. What? You can’t say anything about pre-candidating ministers?

No. We cannot. Out of respect for the confidentiality of the candidates and their current communities, we can’t tell you things that would give any idea of who they are. Is one from Louisiana? Are there any diverse candidates? Would I know any of them? Can Wendy tell us?

This is a job hunt. Imagine you tell your friends/ family you’re thinking about leaving your job. You wonder what your current job would think if they knew. And then one day, your boss calls you in: “Are you job-hunting? My friend saw you in HR at her office.” BAM! The cat’s out of the bag. You are looking for a job… no one says you can’t. But the worst thing is now it’s not just between you and your search. Imagine if you will, the small community in the US UUA. FPW is a well-known congregation: we have a very long history as a settled congregation, we had a long-term minister with strong ties to the UUA, we hosted a wide-community of ministerial interns. We owe it to our pre-candidates to let them be in search without concern for who might know whom.

We can tell you we are learning a lot, spending many hours together, meeting some fabulous people, and enjoying working together. And yes, there is a role in this process for the interim minister… Wendy’s job has much bonus involvement, but she cannot tell you about the applicants either!

We have until the end of March to move from 3 pre-candidates to 1 candidate. We will stay in touch here, on this blog.

Thank you for trusting us with this process for our community. We are constantly humbled and honored to serve the congregation in this capacity.

NB: Previously, we shared links to the completed Congregational Record and survey results summary with members by email. If you did not receive the links, or have any questions, please reach out at searchcommittee@fpwatertown.org
