On Sunday, May 2, 2021, the members of First Parish voted to call Rev. Sophia Lyons as our 30th settled minister!  Because we couldn’t gather to celebrate in person, several members of the Search Committee delivered flowers and tokens from FPW to Rev. Sophia and her family:

What’s Next?

Over the next few months, we will prepare to enter into a new ministry.  Rev. Wendy’s interim ministry with us continues through the end of July, and she will be in the Zoom Pulpit until June 20.

This spring, Rev. Sophia concludes her ministry at UU Church of Haverhill and celebrates her Ordination Service at the First Religious Society UU in Newburyport on May 23.  Our Buildings & Grounds Committee is working to prepare the parsonage for her family to arrive and settle in this summer.  Her ministry at First Parish of Watertown begins on August 1.

Soon, the Parish Committee and Search Committee will be appointing members of a Committee on Ministry to support Rev. Sophia as she gets to know FPW. This committee will also have the joyful task of planning an Installation Service, which “formally celebrates the covenantal relationship between a minister and the congregation that has called the minister. … The Installation isn’t something the congregation does for the minister; rather, it honors and celebrates the promises you are making to one another as you knit yourselves into shared ministry.” (UUA Ordination & Installation Handbook).
