Beyond Categorical Thinking

Will the new minister hear me? Will my concerns and needs be met? Will the minister understand what I’m living with? How will the community respond to our minister? In answering these questions, a picture of the “ideal minister” (categorized by age, gender identity, nationality, physical or cognitive ability, race, sexual orientation, etc.) comes to mind. With this picture in place, it can be easy to unintentionally exclude ministers who fall into certain categories. At times, as we get caught...

Wednesday, October 14, 7:00-8:30 – “American Police” “Black Americans being victimized and killed by the police is an epidemic. A truth many Americans are acknowledging since the murder of George Floyd, as protests have occurred in all fifty states calling for justice on his behalf. But this tension between African American communities and the police has existed for centuries. Special Congregational Meeting – September 13, 2020

We will also be having an important congregational meeting following our first service of the church year, at 12:00 on September 13, held online.

The Search Committee, which has been working hard this summer, would like to update you on their activities and also announce several activities planned for this fall which we will help us all begin to think about the qualities we would like to see in our new minister.  We also have some financial decisions to make regarding repairs to the Parsonage as well as the Meeting House.

2020 Summer Worship Services

The Worship Committee is pleased to announce the schedule of lay-led worship services for 2020. Members of our community will be leading us in Sunday morning worship from July 12 through August 26. We truly hope you’ll join us wherever you are for some or all of these insightful, creative, and celebratory services!

Summer virtual services begin at 10:30 a.m.

Seeking Search Committee Nominations

The next step in our search for our new settled minister is to solicit nominations from the congregation for members to make up our Ministerial Search Committee.  In the coming week, we will be holding a series of small group virtual meetings, facilitated by a member of the Parish Committee or Nominating Committee. There will be time to discuss the qualities needed for someone to serve on a Ministerial Search Committee and the commitment required of its members, as well as a chance to ask lingering questions about the search process.  At the end of the meeting, you will be asked to confidentially submit your nomination to the facilitator.
