Musically Speaking – September 2024

Man with glasses and woman stand smiling in front of windowWelcome back to our church home!

It has been, in some ways, a long, hot summer. These days of lower humidity and cooler temps are making me grateful for fall. And fall brings us back together; I am grateful for weekly church services again with Rev. Sophia.

For the year, we share the overarching theme of Relationship and we start with September’s theme, Invitation. As music director and choir director, this is the perfect time to invite returning choir members back to rehearsals that start Thursday, September 12th at 7 pm. Let me reach further out to those who have not sung with us before and might like to give their Inner-singer a try! I am hoping you come to sing with us. There are so many benefits: camaraderie with other like-minded people, growth as you delve into some new music each month, and pure joy as you share this music with the congregation at a church service. As I write this, it is making me excited! Just in case you worry because you don’t actually read music, Guy makes practice files that help you learn the music independent of your ability to read notes and rhythms. Did I say that we have fun? If you are interested in singing, you can just come to a rehearsal—all on Thursday evenings at 7 pm in our sanctuary—and you can email me with any questions or concerns at the email address below. I invite you to join us.

And what is the music for this month of Invitation? Our two anthems are “Love Come Down”, a song with lyrics that center on Love around us. And then, from the Pixar movie, Toy Story, the song “You’ve Got a Friend in Me.”

I look forward to seeing you in church!
