Youth Faith Exploration
In Unitarian Universalism we consider ‘Youth’ to be between the ages of 12-17. At First Parish we are committed to offering this age group meaningful ways to explore their faith, build community and be ministered to here at FPW. Some of the programming offered to our youth is and has been:
Neighboring Faiths
Neighboring Faiths explores religious diversity in our world through visiting other faith communities and worshiping with them.
Our Whole Lives (OWL)
The UUA and UCC jointly created this lifespan sexuality education course. Our Whole Lives helps participants make informed and responsible decisions about their sexual health and behavior. It equips participants with accurate, age-appropriate information in six subject areas: human development, relationships, personal skills, sexual behavior, sexual health, and society and culture. Grounded in a holistic view of sexuality, Our Whole Lives not only provides facts about anatomy and human development, but also helps participants clarify their values, build interpersonal skills, and understand the spiritual, emotional, and social aspects of sexuality.
Coming of Age
This year-long program helps teens (usually ages 14-16) learn more about Unitarian Universalism and teaches them to identify and articulate their own beliefs. Participants explore theology, spirituality, justice and history through service, discussion, drama, music, writing and art. The program concludes with a ceremony where the youth share their statements of personal belief with the congregation in a worship service.
Youth Group
The Youth Group (usually ages 16-17) build an intentional community, support one another, explore their faith, and perform service projects together.
