Rev. Sophia preaching, with Jean Gauthier, David Morrison, Charmian Proskauer, Charlyn Bethell, Guy Urban and the children and adult choirs!
So often real repair in relationships and communities, requires us to live with ambiguity, humility, and mystery. Many wise leaders and prophets remind us that true repair and reconciliation simply can’t be achieved without these ingredients. Spiritual communities like ours are poised to cultivate spaces for this, and yet, it can be so hard, can’t it? We will close out our month’s theme of repair considering some of this together. We will also make time to honor Transgender Remembrance Day through prayer and silence, Charmian Proskauer will offer us her Journey of Faith and our children and adult choirs will sing some beautiful pieces of music to bring our hearts into good, and needed, harmony! Draw on the strength and love of community–come home to church and worship with us this Sunday.
Reading: “Unity,” by Rosemerry Wahtola Trommer
Today we lose the words
yours and mine and find
in their absence a song
that can only be sung together.
How did we ever think
we could attempt
this humanness alone?
To the table of love,
we bring soup, bring cherries,
bring the bread of our own
sweet communion.
We bring scissors to cut away
the tresses of the past,
bring dark wine to toast
the courage of showing up exposed.
And when we forget
the words to the song,
well, there is always laughter.
And when we forget to laugh,
well, there is always
the union of tears—
the way many rivers
become one river,
the way many voices
become one song.
