Ministerial Transition

The Parish Committee is getting ready to begin the hiring process for the Interim Minister.  We have completedthe UUA Interim Minister application and posted it to the UUA Jobs Board.  On Monday, April 29, we will receive the names of interested candidates for our Interim Ministry position.  The Parish Committee will meet the following day to determine which candidates we are interested in interviewing.  We will be interviewing candidates until May 13, either via the internet or in person, if they are local. We hope to be able to make an offer by May 15 which is the UUA deadline for first round offers.  One of the unknown factors that will affect our budget, is whether the Interim Minister will live in the Parsonage or not. Many Interims are local and already have their own housing, so it is possible that we would be providing a cash living allowance instead of the Parsonage.  This has been planned for in First Parish’s budget for 2019-20 and you will hear more about this at the Annual Meeting on April 28.

Other Actions and Discussions at Parish Committee this Month

  • added some rules for use of the outside Terrace to our rental policy
  • discussed the need for an ad hoc committee to oversee the roll out of the new Breeze Church Management software and a review of our IT needs and challenges
  • Voted Emily Straley as a member of First Parish – welcome Emily!
  • Recommend for membership on the Parish Committee: Kelly Morton and Dia Warren to replace Sue Kuder and Dean Berlin

Changes to The First Parish By Laws

We are proposing some changes to our By Laws in an effort to have these guiding rules for our church governance more accurately reflect our actual practice and to clarify and add some omissions.  By Law changes must be approved by the members of First Parish.  You will have that opportunity on Sunday, April 28 after the service at our Annual Meeting.  Please see the summary of changes and a copy of our By Laws with marked changes on the Committee blog.

The church is governed by the Parish Committee, made up of seven members elected by the congregation at the Annual Meeting for a term of three years. The Parish Committee sets policy, hires staff, and manages the overall direction and business of the church.
