Faith Exploration – January 2026

Jan 9, 2026

This month’s worship theme of courage has me thinking about the courage it takes to volunteer. This can be true in any setting, and is certainly true here at FPW.

The courage you need to lean into a program, activity, or cause can sometimes feel easy, but can also be a little fleeting. This can be especially true when it comes to really knowing what you are signing up for.

For Faith Exploration, we are generally looking for one to two volunteers a week to support our Sunday classes that happen during the service. But what does it mean to volunteer with Faith Exploration?

Quite simply, it means showing up at 10 AM on a Sunday morning, walking through the lesson plan that was shared earlier in the week with you via email, and discussing any questions. Then, you carry out that lesson plan when we gather for classes shortly after the service starts.

Volunteers are not asked to create their own lessons, bring in supplies, or do any planning. Volunteering is about carrying out a lesson plan that has been crafted to connect with a monthly theme, an important holiday, or our shared UU values.

Volunteers get to choose if they want to work with our older or younger kids with the split being around 1st grade. And in collaboration with a classroom assistant (Cas or Maddy), myself, or another volunteer, you move through the lesson. The lesson plans generally involve reading a picture book that has been provided then doing a project. Most projects are arts + crafts related, but sometimes we branch out into games or other activities.

Volunteering with Faith Exploration can be done on Sundays that work best for you. If there is a Sunday here and there that fits your routine, that is lovely. If you want to volunteer for two or three Sundays in a row, that is also lovely.

What I appreciate is your willingness to support our community which includes our youngest.

If you have questions about volunteering, please email me to set up a time to chat or answer questions.

Thank you for the courage to consider volunteering with Faith Exploration,
KYLE
