Month: September 2020

From the Parish Committee, September 2020

The cooler air of fall signals the return to familiar activities.  Our building, still closed, looks quite lonely.   However, our wonderful ingathering service and the hanging of the new rainbow flag reminded me that we are still very much a presence in our community and we are all still here for one another. This fall, our attention is focused on beginning our search for a new minister.  The Search Committee has been working to prepare necessary documents, and now they need input from all of...

Get Involved in the Ministerial Search

The members of the Search Committee have been working hard behind the scenes over the summer - receiving training from the UUA, delegating roles, and beginning to gather information. As the church year begins this fall, we are looking forward to hearing from you, the members, friends, and staff of First Parish Watertown, as part of the phase the UUA calls “Building the Structure to Search.” Listening is vitally important in understanding the hopes, visions, and perspectives of the congregation...

Musically Speaking – September 2020

Welcome back to First Parish Watertown!  I am so very happy to see you at our Zoom worship services.  Guy and I, along with Wendy, Lauren, and Allison have become a tight collaborative unit for creating online worship.   I am also excited that we are continuing to do what we know works along with finding ways to change things up.  I am feeling genuinely excited and open.   Music this year will include creative ways to do preludes, meditations, and hymns.  We will have a hymn of the month that...

In the Interim September, 2020

Welcome to a new church year! I am very much looking forward to being together again, albeit virtually! I look forward to seeing your faces and hearing your voices and working together to build a stronger church community and a better world! If I am quite honest, however, I must say I am looking forward to this year a mixture of excitement, trepidation, and grief. On the one hand, as we begin this second year of interim ministry together, your Search Committee is hard at work, organizing,...

Congregational Survey Questions

Thank you for taking the time to tell us about yourself and your experience of our congregation! We estimate the survey will take 20-40 minutes to complete. This survey will help you, our congregational leadership, our Search Committee, and our future minister understand our congregation better. Responses to these questions will help guide cottage meeting discussions and enrich the narrative about our ministry context that the Search Committee shares with ministerial applicants. The survey...

Special Congregational Meeting – September 13, 2020

We will also be having an important congregational meeting following our first service of the church year, at 12:00 on September 13, held online.

The Search Committee, which has been working hard this summer, would like to update you on their activities and also announce several activities planned for this fall which we will help us all begin to think about the qualities we would like to see in our new minister.  We also have some financial decisions to make regarding repairs to the Parsonage as well as the Meeting House.
