11/17 Film Event Change/Update

Nov 15, 2024

Morning Church Family,

We have made the decision to indefinitely postpone the screening of “The Night Won’t End” scheduled for this Sunday, November 17th at 4pm here at church. This was an offering organized in partnership with Watertown Citizens for Peace, Justice and the Environment–who many of us have worked with and alongside over the years. We were inspired to bring this film to FPW following this year’s UUA General Assembly where an Action of Immediate Witness resolution passed asking us, as Unitarian Universalists, to join in Solidarity with Palestinians by, in part, holding “teach-ins about Palestine and Israel…in sacred spaces for spiritual processing.” The aspiration being that we UU’s do our part to create a world where all of our Palestinian and Jewish kin are safe.  The choice to screen this film was made in this spirit.

That said, we have come to the decision that we need more time to discern how to create sacred space for spiritual processing when it comes to an issue as complicated and divisive as this. We are committed to a time of discernment and conversation as we attempt to put our faith in action and Love at the center of all that we do. Please stay tuned–we hope that some meaningful gatherings might take place in the new year.

If you are interested in engaging more deeply with this issue and time of discernment, please reach out to the Social Action Committee or Rev. Sophia.

In faith and with love,

Rev. Sophia and the Social Action Committee
